Services and Therapy
The initial appointment
The initial appointment is known as the assessment. This session is for you to discuss your needs and expectations of therapy. The assessment also provides a chance to assess whether I am best suited to help you, and if so explain how we might work together in therapy.
Together we will develop a ‘formulation’ or understanding of your difficulties and create a plan based on your goals for therapy. If you decide to proceed with therapy, we can book further appointments at the end of the assessment session.
I understand that starting therapy can be a daunting experience. I offer a free, no-obligation, 15-minute consultation call where we can discuss your needs prior to making an initial assessment appointment.
I integrate a range of evidence-based approaches described below.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a therapy that focuses on changing unhelpful thoughts, attitudes, beliefs and behaviours to help us face difficulties and achieve our goals.
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
CFT teaches us to focus on reactivating the compassionate part of the brain and learning new ways to react. It does this using a range of strategies.
The psychodynamic perspective emphasises unconscious psychological processes (for example, wishes and fears of which we’re not fully aware), and contends that childhood experiences are crucial in shaping adult personality.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT is an approach that supports you to accept what is out of your personal control, and commit to action that improves and enriches your life.
